One cubic yard = 27 cubic feet, so 5 yards is about 270 bags of gravel, rock, or sand (0.5 cu ft each). Heavy materials are where bulk wins biggest. Mulch and topsoil are the exception — bagged prices are competitive, but 5 yards is still 68–135 bags to load, haul, and spread yourself, so bulk delivery costs about the same and saves you the labor. Bulk-only materials like rip rap, road base, railroad ballast, and crushed concrete aren't sold in comparable bags at all.

How many bags equal a cubic yard?

Is delivery really free?

Always. We never add a delivery fee. The price you see is the price you pay. We're family-owned and we'd rather give you a fair deal and earn your repeat business than nickel-and-dime you on logistics.
What's the minimum order?

Our minimum is 2 cubic yards. That's enough to cover about 240 sq ft at 3 inches deep. If your project is smaller than that, bags might actually make more sense — and we'll tell you so.
How accurate is the bag pricing in this calculator?

Bag prices are based on current Houston-area prices at major home improvement retailers (verified Feb 2025). Prices vary by store location and change occasionally — we update them manually. Our bulk pricing is live from our yard.
Do I need to be home for delivery?

Nope. Just tell us where to dump it and we'll take care of the rest. Most customers leave a note in the order with placement instructions — driveway, backyard gate, etc.
